Big Sky Country

Filed under: New Mexico,The Road To Indiana — Christopher Crawford @ 10:07 pm

These two landscapes were found in Quay County, New Mexico back in August as my son and I were driving back to Indiana after his visit with me in Santa Fe. They were made a few hundred feet apart along an access road along the north side of Interstate 40 just east of the town of Bard. The wind was blowing hard and the clouds were changing very quickly.

  1. Chris, These are great shots. When I was driving through northern New Mexico near the Colorado border I saw and photographed similar panoramas of clouds touching the fields – it changes all day long and is really stunning. One reason for this is that New Mexico is the thunderstorm capital of the USA, so there are always puffy cumulus clouds bandying about. In the summer, in the afternoon, they often form up into storm systems and that makes for even more dramatic vistas.
