Wrought Iron Fence Around the Prairie Grove Cemetery

Filed under: The Prairie Grove Cemetery, Waynedale, Forgotten Indiana — Christopher Crawford @ 8:29 pm

The old Prairie Grove Cemetery in the Waynedale section of Fort Wayne, Indiana was once surrounded by a beautiful wrought iron fence. Today, only a small section of fence remains near the little white chapel on Old Trail Road.

  1. I grew up passing by this church as we headed into Waynedale to spend our allowance at Barretts. We also used to lay in the shadows right behind this very fence to watch movies at the Wayndale Drive-in. However, the interior of this chapel was bacly damaged by an arson in early May 2008. You can still see the smoke stains fromm between the crack of the old wood siding. That I know of, there are no plans to demolish the ‘ol girl, but I also haven’t heard of any plans to repair it either.
