The “We Buy Gold” store in the JoAnn Plaza shopping center on Coldwater Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana always has people standing on the corner holding these “Cash For Gold” signs. This young man always dresses as Superman or Spiderman, so I stopped and photographed him on June 10, 2010. He said he was 19 years old and was working to help support his three week old baby son.

I am adding more photographs that I made of Richard Youse and his house in rural southeast Allen County, Indiana near the town of Hoagland. I met Mr. Youse almost a decade ago when I was driving out in the country looking for an abandoned schoolhouse that I had seen on an earlier expedition. I saw his old farmhouse and stopped to photograph it. He told me that he was 87 years old and had lived there with his cats ever since his parents died decades earlier. He had grown up in the house, located on Emenhiser Road just north of the county line.
The house was demolished after Mr. Youse was put in a nursing home sometime around 2004. I later learned that he had passed away at the beginning of 2005. This photograph was made of his land in 2008. You can see the driveway going back into the fields that now cover his former yard. The house stood in front of the windmill stand where the field on the left side of the photograph is now located.

I am slowly adding more of my photographs of Mr. Youse after talking to members of his family who found my website, so there will be more coming this summer.
This is actually the first of two photographs that I made of my son, MacKenzie, in the late afternoon on March 19, but I put the second one online first, in my last post. He and I were getting cold outside when we did this one, so we moved inside to do the one in my previous post.

I made this photograph of my son on a cold afternoon a couple of weeks ago while I was testing a lens that I had sent off for repair because it wasn’t focusing accurately. He was pretty tired of being my test guinea pig by the time I made this image at the end of the roll.

Cathie is a good friend, an artist, a journalism professor at Indiana University Fort Wayne, and photographer for the Journal-Gazette. I photographed her last week outside the Starbucks in downtown Fort Wayne.
