Back in July of last year, I was driving through the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne when I saw this doll standing by the stop sign at the corner of Belle Vista Blvd. and Old Trail Rd. I took her picture and continued on my journey. A few hours later I drove by again and she was gone.

The GE starburst sign at Elwood’s Appliances in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne is a famous landmark. At night, little lightbulbs on the starburst light up and move outward while the GE logo in the center flashes on and off. I think that this sign has been there since the 1950’s, but I am not sure. I promised the owner of the store a print, so I’ll ask him when I give it to him.

Elwoods is one of a tiny handful of locally owned appliance stores left in Fort Wayne. Waynedale actually has another locally owned appliance store, Sandpoint TV Service, down the street from Elwoods on Lower Huntington Road.

One day near the end of January, I discovered that one of the dumpsters in the apartment complex I live in had been hit by a political protest of sorts. The spray-paint wielding citizen put our elected officials in their place by painting “Insert Politicions” on the front of the dumpster. Too bad he couldn’t spell P-O-L-I-T-I-C-I-A-N-S!
I made this photograph on Valentine’s Day. The dumpster was replaced with a new one soon after.

I was walking around the apartment complex in Waynedale where I live, when I found this little kid-sized plastic patio chair overturned in the snow by the field of thistles.

Sunlight on a cold November day streams into the little white chapel at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne, Indiana several months after the fire that damaged the building in March of 2008. Workmen restoring the little church have torn up some of the water and fire damaged carpet and pushed the pews to one side. Restoration began with the replacement of the roof in November, 2008. Work was then stopped because of the winter.

Thanks to my friends on theĀ Olympus Email List, a group of people who use Olympus cameras, we have an answer to my question about the age of the old Cadillac in my last post. It is a 1956 model.
This old Cadillac sedan has been for sale in Waynedale for several months. It started out sitting in front of Favory Auto Repair on Lower Huntington Road, then moved to the location shown here, in front of one of the trucking companies on Ardmore Avenue near the Hanson Stone Quarry. It is now back in front of Favory’s.
Does anyone know what year it is?

This little auto repair shop on Lower Huntington Road in the Waynedale area of Fort Wayne has been around under different names as long as I can remember. Fort Wayne still has quite a few small locally owned garages like this one.

Sandpoint TV Service is one of those rarities in the modern world, an independent locally owned appliance store. It has been located on Lower Huntington Road in Waynedale longer than I have lived. My parents bought a TV here when I was a kid, and they got it serviced here at least once that I can remember. Back then, people had electronics repaired when they broke. Today, you throw it out and buy a new one.
